NCTE: Continuing Professional Development

ICT & Maths – Part 2

CPD imageAvailable now through the network of local education centres, the ICT & Maths - Part 2 course enables teachers to use ICT and mathematics software to support the teaching of Strands 3, 4 and 5 of the post-primary mathematics curriculum. Designed by the Project Maths Development Team in collaboration with NCTE, the course is accompanied by a support wiki which contains exemplars of ICT for mathematics including the use of digital projectors, visualisers and demonstrations of how ICT applications and equipment can be used in learning and teaching.

Online Summer Course

CPD imageEnrolment is now open for the NCTE’s free online course Developing e-Learning in your School (Primary) being offered again this summer, with a literacy dimension. This highly interactive 20 hour course is developed around the NCTE’s e-Learning Handbook will suit all primary teachers. ICT skills and experience of using the Internet are required as well as a good broadband Internet connection.

Summer Courses in your School or Education Centre

CPD imageThe NCTE summer course Creating and Using ICT Resources for Literacy is available through the network of local education centres. Contact your local education centre for details. Has your school already applied for an NCTE-funded whole school training course? The NCTE’s course, Using the Interactive Whiteboard to Support Literacy, will run for teachers in 90 schools countrywide.

NCTE: Innovate

edchatie imageThere has been much talk about Twitter and Education. A brilliant new initiative was set up in March 2011 for Irish educators on Twitter: #edchatie. Every Monday evening between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, educators from primary, post primary and third level as well as parents, have the chance to get together on Twitter to discuss a topic relating to Irish Education. It’s based on the very successful worldwide #edchat.

NCTE: e-Links

elinks imageWith a short final term and examination time ahead for post primary schools across the country, e-Links , the community of practice for post primary ICT Coordinating Teachers, is focussing on what needs to be done to ready the ICT infrastructure for the approaching summer holidays. ICT Coordinating teachers are being asked to share with each other the steps they take at this time of the school year.
